The appeal hearing for the Suraj case seeking state compensation has concluded (the next hearing is due to hear the verdict)

Attorney Kodama giving a report at the report meeting

The appeal hearing in the Suraj case for state compensation was concluded at 10:00 on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 in Courtroom 825 of the Tokyo High Court.
The plaintiffs' attorney, Koichi Kodama, represented the legal team, and Mr. Suraj's wife made her final appeal on behalf of the plaintiffs.

From Attorney Kodama:
Finally, I would like to confirm the essential point. Suraj was not treated as a human being with dignity. We know from the deportation video of Suraj and the immigration reenactment photos of the crime that have been released so far as evidence preservation, that the immigration officials treated Suraj badly. And yet no one has been punished. Should such injustice be allowed? I would like to ask the high court to make a ruling that realizes justice, he said.

Suraj's wife began by crying out, "Please let me return my husband," and then, with a trembling voice, said that if they cannot return him, the Ministry of Justice should formally apologize and reflect on their actions. She is still suffering every day. She wants to know the truth about why her husband died. She spoke with a choked voice, saying that she wants a sincere investigation into what the immigration officials should have done at the time of the incident and what the Ministry of Justice should do going forward, and that she wants both the immigration officials and the Ministry of Justice to change.

There was no appeal from the defendant and the trial was concluded.

The next date will be the judgement date.January 18, 2016 15:00~ Tokyo High Court Law No. 825This is the court.
