[Suraj case] No charges were filed

The ten immigration officials who accompanied Suraj on his deportation were referred to the prosecutor's office on suspicion of assault and cruelty resulting in death by special public officials, but on July 3, 2012, they were not indicted.

On the afternoon of July 3, 2012, the prosecutor in charge at the Chiba District Public Prosecutors Office directly explained the situation to Suraj's wife, stating that there was no causal relationship between Suraj's death and the actions of the immigration officials.

The government, the defendant in a civil lawsuit for state compensation, had previously maintained an adamant stance of withholding all charges, but now, just after the preparatory documents were released the other day, it has decided not to indict...the timing makes you suspect that the government and the prosecutors were colluding.

In the future, pursuing the matter through a lawsuit for state compensation may be the only way to find out the truth. We appreciate your cooperation in attending the state compensation hearing. (The next hearing will be held on July 30th at 11:30 in Courtroom 705 of the Tokyo District Court.)
