This is an update regarding the case of Abubagar Awudu Suraj, a Ghanaian national who died on March 22, 2010, after being subdued by immigration officials while being deported at government expense.
On June 28, three months after the incident, Suraj's wife, legal team, and APFS, frustrated by the fact that the case had still not been referred to the prosecutor's office, filed a complaint with the Chiba District Public Prosecutor's Office. Two months have passed since then—five months have already gone by since the incident—but the case has still not been referred to the prosecutor's office, and the police investigation is still ongoing. The legal team is in regular contact with the Chiba District Public Prosecutor's Office and the prefectural police, urging them to refer the case to the prosecutor's office as soon as possible.
On June 29, Suraj's wife, a member of his family, traveled to Ghana with his body. In Ghana, she met Suraj's family for the first time and was able to attend his funeral and burial (the photo shows the funeral).
The travel and accommodation expenses for Mrs. [Name]'s trip to Ghana (386,000 yen) were covered by your generous donations to the Suraj Foundation (as of August 30, 2010, 335,000 yen had been collected). This foundation will continue to operate and will be used for activities aimed at uncovering the truth. We would greatly appreciate your continued support.
