The first hearing for Suraj's state compensation case has ended.

Suraj in his lifetime

Monday, October 31, 2011 was the first hearing in Suraj's lawsuit seeking state compensation.

Suraj's wife made a statement of her opinion, which took about five minutes, in which she expressed her current feelings. She asked for two things: "I want the truth of the incident to be revealed through this trial," and "I want an official apology from the Immigration Bureau." In her statement, she said that she still hears the words of Suraj every day, "It's love. I will never give up because I have love," which he said during a meeting a few days before the incident. It was heartbreaking to think of the sense of loss that Suraj must have felt after he passed away after being with her for over 20 years.

On the other hand, the government insisted that it would reserve its opinion, giving the impression of no sincerity whatsoever.

The next session will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 14:00 in Courtroom 705.This time, about 70 to 80 spectators came, and some people were unable to sit in the gallery and had to wait outside the courtroom (I apologize to those who were unable to sit in the gallery). I would like to fill the gallery again next time to show that this case is attracting attention. Thank you for your cooperation in attending the hearing.

Regarding reports of non-prosecution of Immigration Bureau officials (as of November 7, 2011)

On Friday, November 4th, some media reported that the immigration officials who had been referred to the prosecutor's office had not been indicted. Since this was not an official announcement from the prosecutor's office, the defense team checked with the Chiba District Public Prosecutors Office on Monday, November 7th, and received the following response from the prosecutor's office.
I am not aware of the reports
No word on disposal plans
The decision not to prosecute was a false report. Suraj's wife was shocked and devastated by this report. She was also hurt again by the existence of such heartless reporting after learning that it was a false report. We hope for honest reporting.
