On March 22, 2010, a Ghanaian man, ABUBAKAR AWUDU SURAJ (hereinafter referred to as Suraj), died during government-sponsored deportation. The death occurred when immigration officials accompanying him on the deportation forcefully restrained him using foot cuffs, towels, and personal cable ties, which are not permitted by the regulations.
In order to find out the truth behind Suraj's death, we filed a lawsuit against the government and immigration officials on August 5, 2010, seeking damages. Suraj regretted having overstayed his visa and all he wanted was to live in Japan with his wife. Through this lawsuit, we will find out why such a man had to die.
This will be the fourth hearing, but in the three previous hearings, the government has adopted a dishonest attitude, refusing to deny or admit anything, and has not even revealed the specific issues at stake.
The more people who attend the hearing, the more we can help uncover the truth behind this case. We appreciate your cooperation. (After the hearing, there will be a brief explanation of the trial.)
