Please support undocumented foreigners seeking special permission to stay in Japan!
—Let's send 1,000 postcards to the Ministry of Justice—
———————————————————————————–
There are 62,009 undocumented foreign residents in Japan. These are a diverse group of people living in local communities, including those who have been in Japan for a long time, those living with Japanese spouses, and families with children.
APFS has been supporting 17 families and 3 individuals (34 people in total) of undocumented foreign residents who have already been ordered to leave Japan since October 2012, in their efforts to obtain special permission to stay. We have taken various actions, including a parade in Ginza and Yurakucho (November 2012), a "human chain" action in front of the Ministry of Justice (December 2012), and a week-long sit-in in front of the Tokyo Immigration Bureau (May 2013). Through these actions, we have felt a growing interest in undocumented foreign residents. However, as of August 2013, no one has yet been granted special permission to stay, except for one person who was granted permission for medical treatment.
To ensure that 17 families and 3 individuals (34 people) are granted special permission to stay in Japan as soon as possible, APFS has taken action by sending 1,000 postcards to the Ministry of Justice, and we ask for your support.
By September 15, 2013, we had distributed over 1,400 postcards to everyone from our office.
I'm sure nearly 1,000 postcards arrived at the Ministry of Justice.
Thank you all for your cooperation.
APFS will continue its efforts to help 17 families and 3 individuals (34 people in total) obtain special residence permits.
We would appreciate your support.
