Opinion exchange meeting for foreign consultation workers
-How to effectively manage stress while providing sustainable counseling services-
APFS is an NPO that has been providing consultation to foreigners for 25 years. In providing consultation to foreigners, we realized that counselors are prone to stress due to cultural differences between them and the people they consult, and the difficulty of gaining understanding of the significance and expertise of their activities.
It is essential that counselors working in consultation with foreign residents are in good physical and mental health and able to maintain high motivation for their work in order to continue supporting foreign residents. To achieve this, I think it would be effective for counselors who share their experiences to exchange ideas on how to face and relieve stress.
With this in mind, we have planned to hold an exchange meeting for counselors working in consultation with foreign residents to exchange opinions on topics such as the stress that arises when providing consultation to foreign residents, points to keep in mind when dealing with cultural differences between them and the people they consult, and methods for relieving stress.
The meeting will be facilitated by Ms. Akiko Onishi, a clinical psychology specialist who works in counseling for international students at the University of Tokyo. The participants will review and organize their experiences in daily counseling activities, and consider daily self-care that can be done to continue participating in activities in a healthier and more fulfilling manner. The results of a survey conducted by APFS targeting counselors in Tokyo will also be reported. We look forward to your participation.
