On Monday, March 12, 2012, at 2:00 PM, the third hearing in the national compensation case for Ms. Suraj was held.
In the previous hearing, the judge pointed out that the defendant, the government, should respond properly rather than simply suspending its plea. In response, the government's written statement this time was merely a summary of what the plaintiffs had submitted. The defense team pressed the government, asking if not raising any objections to our claims meant that there was no dispute over the facts. The defendant responded that they had only organized the information and wanted to avoid any obstacles to the criminal proceedings. This response, in addition to suspending the plea, was extremely dishonest, and angry voices rose from the spectators, asking, "How long are you going to keep sweeping this under the rug!"
The judge suggested that the plaintiffs should summarize their arguments to date and do everything they can before the next hearing, and then the court would decide how to proceed.
The next hearing will be on Monday, May 21, 2012, at 4:00 PM in courtroom 705. We would like you to see for yourselves how long the government will continue to handle this situation. Your attendance would be greatly appreciated.
