On Sunday, October 27, 2019, we held the second session of our lecture series, "Interacting with Migrant Workers Living in Japan." The theme of this session was "The Current Situation of Migrant Workers from the Philippines." Our guest speaker was Mika Hattori, a Filipino who has become a naturalized Japanese citizen. She spoke about daily life and raising children in Japan from the perspective of a migrant worker.
She said that the biggest difficulty in her daily life in Japan was reading and writing Japanese. She felt frustrated because she couldn't read documents related to her children while raising them. She also talked about the reasons why she became a naturalized Japanese citizen.
During the class, we enjoyed sinigang (shrimp soup), a Filipino dish.
The next session on November 24th will be about Myanmar. There are still spots available, so please contact us if you are interested.
