"Foreign-born Community Leader Development Course" begins

Lecture on "Status of Residence" by Attorney Komai

APFS started the "Foreign Community Leader Development Seminar" on Saturday, September 3, 2016. Seventeen participants from nine countries gathered: the UK, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, China, Nigeria, Nepal, the Philippines, and Japan.

APFS has long wanted to create a system in Japan where "foreigners support foreigners." Foreign residents who have lived in Japan for many years and overcome various problems have accumulated know-how for solving problems. We thought that if there was an opportunity to systematically organize that knowledge and skills, residents with the know-how could become leaders and solve problems in their own communities.

The course consists of 14 sessions, and participants will learn about the law, social welfare systems, etc. In addition, experts will teach them tips on interpretation and information gathering.

The first lecture was on the theme of "Law 1 - Status of Residence (Visa)" and was given by Attorney Tomoaki Komai. "Status of residence" is an issue that any foreigner can face. Attorney Komai gave a clear and easy-to-understand lecture, citing various examples. Participants commented, "It was very relevant to us, and the lecture was based on very good information and knowledge."

Instead of a relationship where "Japanese people help foreigners," we need a new relationship where "foreigners support foreigners." I hope that this course will be the first step in creating a society where everyone can live comfortably.

Participation in the middle of this course is also welcome. For details on the course curriculum and application procedures, please seeHereYou can view it from here.
