"Foreign-born Community Leader Development Course" begins

Lecture on "Residence Status" by Attorney Komai

APFS launched its "Foreign Community Leader Training Program" on Saturday, September 3, 2016. Seventeen participants gathered from nine countries: the UK, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, China, Nigeria, Nepal, the Philippines, and Japan.

APFS has long wanted to create a system in Japan where "foreigners support foreigners." Foreign residents who have lived in Japan for many years and overcome various problems have accumulated know-how for problem-solving. We thought that if there was an opportunity to systematically organize this knowledge and skills, residents with know-how could become leaders and solve problems within their respective communities.

The course consists of 14 sessions and covers knowledge of laws and social welfare systems. Experts will also teach you techniques for interpretation and information gathering.

The first session focused on "Law ① - Status of Residence (Visa)," with a lecture by lawyer Tomoe Komai. "Status of residence" is an issue that any foreigner may face. Lawyer Komai explained the topic clearly, using various real-world examples. Participants commented that "it was a lecture based on very good information and knowledge that is highly relevant to us."

We need a new relationship where "foreigners support foreigners," rather than a relationship where "Japanese people help foreigners." I hope this course will be the first step towards creating a society where everyone can live comfortably.

Joining this course midway through is welcome. For details on the course curriculum, application process, etc., please see below.HereYou can view it from here.
