APFS has been working on the "100-Day Action to Nurture Children's Dreams" since August 29, 2015. To date, we have engaged in various activities, including "Children's Conferences," "Petitions to Members of Parliament," "Postcard Campaign to the Ministry of Justice," "Press Conference at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan," and "Establishment of Support Groups for Children in Their Local Communities."
As the culmination of the "100-Day Action," a parade was held in Shibuya from 2:15 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 20, 2015, with children, their families, and supporters participating. The purpose was to let as many people as possible know about the situation they were facing.
The children who participated in the parade were born and raised in Japan, yet they do not have resident status. They live each day in uncertainty, unsure whether they will be able to stay in Japan or whether they will be forced to go to their parents' home country, a place they have never been to, making it difficult for them to envision their future dreams.
Some children felt hesitant about exposing their existence to the public in the parade. However, they encouraged each other and mustered the courage to participate in the parade, hoping to change their situation by letting many people know about their story.
We raised our voices in Shibuya, shouting, "The Ministry of Justice must grant these children residency!", "Don't deport our families!", and "Don't separate parents and children!"
In Shibuya before Christmas, many people were out shopping, and we were able to raise awareness about the existence of children without resident status and their desire to fulfill their future dreams in Japan.
Based on our activities to date, APFS will continue to work with children to explore ways that will allow as many children as possible to reside in Japan.
We appreciate your continued interest and support.
