The Supreme Court handed down its ruling on the lawsuit seeking state compensation for Suraj, a Ghanaian national who died during government-sponsored repatriation, on November 9, 2016. As a result, the plaintiffs (Suraj's wife and others) lost the case. The district court found the actions of the immigration bureau illegal, but the high court reversed the decision, finding that the actions were necessary and appropriate, and this ruling was final.
Together with Suraj's wife, his legal team, and other supporters, we have been appealing the illegality of the immigration bureau's actions, but the government has presented numerous expert opinions in its favor, which have been accepted by higher courts, resulting in this disappointing decision.
*Following the Supreme Court ruling, a message from his wife and a report from his legal team have been posted on the APFS blog. Please take a look.
