From November 25th to 29th, 2010, Representative Director Kato and six other APFS staff and volunteers visited Dhaka, Bangladesh. The purpose of this tour was to visit migrant support organizations and institutions, and to reunite with APFS members who had returned to Bangladesh.
We visited the IOM (International Organization for Migration), the Ministry of Home Affairs, and other organizations to exchange views on the challenges facing Bangladesh, a country that sends out migrants. All the organizations we visited were friendly and kind. Also, about 20 APFS members who had returned to Bangladesh gathered to welcome us. The entire tour was coordinated by Mr. Masud Karim, the first executive director of our organization.
Some of the migrants were struggling to readjust and rebuild their lives after returning to their home countries. We recognized that supporting their lives is a challenge. Based on what we learned on this tour, we would like to develop concrete initiatives in the future.
*This tour was also featured in The Independent (a Bangladeshi English-language newspaper).
