APFS 100 Days of Action to Nurture Children's Dreams Report ⑥ Petition to the National Diet

They listened to the children's voices.

On Friday, October 23, 2015, eight children who were undocumented immigrants (from the Philippines and Iran) and their guardians were arrested.
I met with House of Representatives member and Judicial Affairs Committee director, Shiori Yamao, at the House of Representatives Second Members' Office Building and requested her support.

The eight children each spoke in their own words about the difficulties they face as undocumented immigrants and their dreams for the future.
Despite needing surgery, I am unable to receive it because I cannot obtain health insurance.
We observed serious situations such as students being denied even the opportunity to take entrance exams due to lacking residency status, and therefore unable to decide on their future career paths.
Another child shared their anguish at being told by the Ministry of Justice that they would be granted a visa if their parents or siblings returned home.
The child stated that they wanted to stay in the country not only for their own happiness but also for the happiness of their family.

Representative Yamao listened attentively to each and every person's story.
Finally, he encouraged us by saying, "You are all important people for Japan, for society, and for the planet."
They also promised to provide support in the future.
I'm sure both the children and their parents were greatly encouraged.

The "100-Day Action," which began on August 29th, has now passed its halfway point.
Going forward, we are accelerating our actions through press conferences, continuing our postcard campaign, and holding rallies and parades.
We would greatly appreciate your support.
