"Free health consultation for foreign residents" held

The interview

On Sunday, February 9, 2020, a free health consultation was held at the APFS office. A doctor interviewed participants, and blood pressure, temperature, urine tests, and height and weight measurements were taken. 20 people had made reservations in advance, and 18 people came to see the doctor on the day. More than half were from Bangladesh, but there were also people from India, Pakistan, Cameroon, and Burkina Faso. People who did not have a resident status and could not get health insurance also came to see the doctor, and they consulted about physical problems that they were worried about because they could not go to the hospital.

Of course, health consultations on this scale are limited in discovering illnesses, but many people had their blood pressure and urine tests taken for the first time in a while, and some people unexpectedly noticed physical discomfort, such as high blood pressure or protein or sugar in their urine. We hope that this will encourage people to go to the hospital and discover illnesses before they become serious. Opportunities like this are valuable, especially for foreigners without residence status or health insurance, so we plan to continue holding these events, even on a small scale.
