APFS has been working on the "100 Days of Action to Nurture Children's Dreams" since August 29, 2015. So far, we have been involved in a variety of activities, including "children's conferences," "petitions to Diet members," "postcard campaigns to the Ministry of Justice," "press conferences at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan," and "launching support groups in children's local areas."
As a culmination of the "100 Days of Action," children, their families, and supporters held a parade through Shibuya from 14:15 to 15:00 on Sunday, December 20, 2015. The purpose was to raise awareness of the situation they are facing as many people as possible.
The children who participated in the parade were born and raised in Japan, but they do not have a resident status. They spend their days not knowing whether they will be able to stay in Japan or whether they will be forced to go to their parents' home country, which they have never been to, making it difficult for them to dream about the future.
Some children were reluctant to expose their presence in the streets at the parade, but by encouraging each other and letting many people know about them, they mustered up the courage to take part in the parade, hoping to change the situation.
Voices were raised in Shibuya saying, "The Ministry of Justice should allow the children to stay in Japan!", "Don't deport the family!", and "Don't separate parents and children!"
Before Christmas, many people were out shopping in Shibuya, and we were able to highlight the existence of children without resident status and their desire to fulfill their dreams for the future in Japan.
Based on the activities carried out to date, APFS will continue to work with these children to find ways for as many children as possible to remain in Japan.
We appreciate your continued interest and support.
