APFS Regular General Meeting held

General meeting

The APFS Ordinary General Meeting was held at the office on June 19, 2022. Regular members of various nationalities, including Bangladesh, the Philippines, Iran, and Thailand, attended.

As a report on activities for 2021, the first thing reported was on consultation activities. By nationality, about half of the consultations were from Bangladesh, followed by the Philippines, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc. There were also many consultations from irregular residents. About two-thirds of the consultations were related to residence status, and the rest of the consultations in 2021 were characterized by a large number of medical-related inquiries. When we say medical, most of the inquiries were about COVID-19, especially vaccinations. APFS mainly had its foreign members inform foreign residents around them that they can receive the vaccine even if they are irregular residents, and also shared notifications from the government.
As for other activities, we have started a donation project called "Let's support the dreams of young people beyond the barriers of visa status," and provide direct support to those without visa status, especially children and young people, in terms of living expenses, tuition fees, food assistance, etc. We also frequently use social media (mainly Facebook), and have also released a YouTube video (part 2) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTBvJxkOCH8).
While we began these new activities, the COVID-19 pandemic continued, reflecting members' financial difficulties, leading to delays in membership fee renewals and the inability to hold events to collect donations, resulting in a deficit in our finances for fiscal year 2021.

In 2022, we will continue to provide consultation services, especially to irregular migrants. We will continue to carry out the same activities we have been doing since our establishment, and in the post-COVID era, we will hold courses to make effective use of our office space, focus on applying for grants, and consider developing new businesses.
