APFS 100 Days of Action to Nurture Children's Dreams Report ⑥ Petition to the National Diet

We listened to the voices of children

On Friday, October 23, 2015, eight undocumented children (from the Philippines and Iran) and their guardians
We met with House of Representatives Member and Director of the Judicial Affairs Committee, Shiori Yamao, at the House of Representatives Second Members' Building and requested her support.

The eight children spoke in their own words about the difficulties they face due to their irregular immigration status and their dreams for the future.
Even though I need surgery, I can't have it because I can't enroll in health insurance.
Because they don't have a resident status, they are not even allowed to take exams, and are unable to decide on their future career paths.
Others shared their anguish when the Ministry of Justice suggested they would be granted a visa once their parents and siblings returned home.
The child said that he wanted to stay in Japan so that not only he but also his family could live happily.

Councillor Yamao listened carefully to what each of us had to say.
Finally, he encouraged us by saying, "You are all important people to Japan, to society, and to the Earth."
And he promised to support us in the future.
I think it was very encouraging for both the children and their parents.

The "100 Days of Action" that began on August 29th has now reached the halfway point.
Going forward, we will accelerate our actions through press conferences, continuing the postcard campaign, and holding rallies and parades.
We would appreciate your support.
