A gathering was held to celebrate the publication of "Future Immigration Policies Proposed by Citizens: Based on the Activities of the NPO APFS and Global Trends"

Commemorative lecture by Professor Tetsuo Mizukami

On May 20, 2015, Gendaijinbunsha published Future Immigration Policies Proposed by Citizens: From the Activities of the NPO APFS and Global Trends. In this book, APFS, which has been providing support for foreigners for 30 years, raises issues from the perspective of citizen activities regarding the current situation and issues of Western countries and Asian countries that accept immigrants, as well as the way in which Japan should proceed with foreign and immigration policies.

This book raises the issue of foreigners and immigration policy, and we hope that all members of Japanese society will participate in the discussion. In a world where hate speech is openly practiced, simply shouting about a "multicultural society" will not solve anything. It is necessary to build a fair and open society through action.

Therefore, to receive opinions and criticisms about the book, we held a publication commemoration gathering at Itabashi City Cultural Hall on Saturday, August 1, 2015. Approximately 60 people participated.

We also asked the editor, Professor Tetsuo Mizukami (Rikkyo University Faculty of Sociology), to give a commemorative lecture titled "Considering Immigration Policy." He gave a clear and easy-to-understand explanation of a wide range of topics, from the evolution of support for foreign residents in Japan, to global trends surrounding immigration, the concept of transnationalism, and the potential that APFS may play in the future.

The event proceeded in a friendly atmosphere, with a toast from Gendaijinbunsha President Toshinobu Narusawa. There was lively interaction between researchers and practitioners involved in immigration, and foreign residents.

Towards the end of the event, we were joined by members of the Bangladeshi band Uttron, who played Bangladeshi music. Everyone was listening intently to their unique music.

We also received a total of 35,011 yen in donations from visitors. We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude.
