Bangladesh Study Tour

Hearing at the Ministry of Home Affairs

From November 25th to 29th, 2010, Chairman Kato and six other APFS staff and volunteers visited Dhaka, Bangladesh. The purpose of this tour was to visit migrant support groups and organizations, and to reunite with APFS members who had returned to Bangladesh.

We visited the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Ministry of Home Affairs, etc., and exchanged opinions on issues facing Bangladesh, a country that sends migrants. All the organizations we visited were friendly and helpful. In addition, about 20 APFS members who had returned to Bangladesh gathered to welcome us. The entire tour was coordinated by Masud Karim, the organization's first Secretary General.

Among the migrants, there were some who struggled to readjust and rebuild their lives after returning home. We realized that the challenge was how to support their lives. Based on what we learned on this tour, we would like to develop concrete initiatives in the future.
