The first counselor training course

The first "Counselor Training Course" was held at the APFS office on June 25, 2023. The speaker was Hiroko Yamazaki, a volunteer staff member who has been involved with APFS for many years.
The speaker began by explaining the background of APFS's establishment, the type of people involved, and the content of its activities. In introducing the consultation activities that APFS is focusing on, he placed special emphasis on supporting undocumented foreign residents. He explained how APFS is involved in these issues, including the backgrounds, lives, and children of undocumented residents, and its role. During the Q&A session, questions were asked about how to deal with undocumented children and the current situation of children separated from their parents. In addition, some people expressed the opinion that they would like to participate in APFS's activities as volunteers but are hesitant because they lack expertise, and the speaker advised them to first participate as there are a variety of volunteer activities available.

The speaker's talk lasted 1.5 hours, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session, and the content was packed with questions, making it a very fulfilling session. In the questionnaire after the session, participants commented that they had learned about the real situation of undocumented immigrants through APFS' activities, and that they had gained a lot of knowledge.

The next counselor training course will be on Sunday, July 23rd, and will be titled "Introduction to Immigration Control Law." This session is already full, but there are still a few spots available, so if you are interested, please contact APFS as soon as possible.
