On Monday, January 16, 2012, the second hearing of the national compensation lawsuit in the Suraj case was held at courtroom 705 of the Tokyo District Court, starting at 2 PM.
The defendant, the government, is maintaining the exact same stance as last time, stating that they will reserve their plea until the criminal proceedings are finalized. I was indignant at the government's lack of sincerity. In response, the presiding judge suggested that they consider proceeding with the case in parallel with the criminal proceedings. I hope that in the next hearing, the government will clarify its position and that we will make some progress, even if it's just a little at a time.
The next hearing, the third in the series, will be held on Monday, March 12th, at 2 PM in courtroom 705.
We would appreciate your continued cooperation in observing the proceedings.
