Asian cooking class

Foreigners try Japanese cuisine

APFS held an "Asian Cooking Class" from June to November 2009.

In the Philippine cooking class, participants made kaldereta (Filipino-style beef stew) and banana spring rolls, in the Myanmar cooking class they made Myanmar tsukemen and coconut jelly, and in the Bangladesh cooking class they made mackerel curry and misti (dessert). The instructors from each country taught the Japanese participants the taste of their home cooking. They also introduced their cultures to the food, making for a very fulfilling experience. In the Japanese cooking class for foreigners, participants made miso soup using dashi made from shiitake mushrooms and kelp, and cooked rice in a clay pot. It was a very enjoyable opportunity to get a glimpse of the cultures of each country through food.
